IIM-A Fewer female Enrollment This Year


In this year, there is less number of enrolled female students in Indian Institute Of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), in the post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management. According to the news from IIM-A that it is the lesser number of female candidate enrolled student in IIM-A. This lesser number shows that the interest in studying in Indian Institute of Management going less and more less year by year in female candidate.

There is no any improvement in enrollment number of female candidates seen since last two years. According to the report from IIM-A, year by year the female candidates’ number getting less. As per the source from Indian Institute Of Management, Ahmedabad that the percentage of number of girls offered admission at the institute’s flagship courses decreases from 16% in 2009 to 11% in 2010. This report shows that the figure has dropped to 10.9% this year.

In this last month, On Monday i.e. on 18 April 2011, the final list of selected  students were declared on the basis of Common Admission Test (CAT) and Personal Interviews in Indian Institute Of Management, Ahmedabad(IIM-A). In this list of selected students there were 376 number of students who clear the all exams of IIM-A. 376 Students were offered admission in IIM-A in this year. In this selected number of students there were 182 general candidates, 104 from non-creamy other backward classes, 56 from scheduled castes, 22 from scheduled tribes and 12 differently-abled students out of 376.

While talking about the turn down of the contribution of girls in the Admission to the Post Graduate Programme (PGP), the faculty at IIM-A named Diptesh Ghosh said that it is not a part of our permission during the admission process. He said that number of girls candidate does not in the part of our admission process. In addition to this news an undefined faculty, preferred to stay undefined  IIM-A explained that it is a larger issue. According to him, he said that it is fully depend on how many girls candidate took part in the Common Admission Test and how many of them were able to make it to the interview calls for the institute. It is a big issue that the female candidates have to sit in the Common Admission Test and make themselves as super to face the interview calls from the institute.

Additionally, in this year also the maximum number of engineering students included in the batch with a total of 94.15% students from engineering background. Rest of the 3.5 % students includes from commerce background, approximately 2.5% students included from science background and rest from agricultural background. Dissimilar last year, there is no candidate from the arts stream this year.
